The Royal on the Waterfront

A good friend of mine has been raving for ages about Wednesday night oyster specials at The Royal in East Perth.   We went there last Wednesday to celebrate her birthday and I can say that the oysters certainly lived up to expectation.  So fresh, so yum!

Freshly shucked oysters - $30/doz
Steve had the lamb (or 'lamp rump' as described in their menu!) - it was incredibly tender and the cream sauce was perfectly seasoned.  He practically licked his plate clean!
'Oven baked lamp rump on a bed of potato, spinach & thyme finished with cream, buttered baby carrots & shiraz jus' - $37
On the waitress' recommendation I ordered the spaghetti marinara.  Though a little on the pricey side, it was packed full of fresh seafood and served in a huge black pan.  I almost never order spaghetti marinara because I'm tired of tasting overly garlicked, soupy, tomato based pasta sauces with packet marinara mix thrown in - and paying a small fortune for the dubious privilege.  This dish was the complete opposite - it is more of an olive oil based pasta with fresh tomatoes and basil.  It was delicious and I was really glad I ordered it, though there was enough there to serve 2 probably.  Neither of the two of us who ordered this dish could finish it!
'Spaghetti marinara pan of slipper bug, prawns, squid, barramundi, atlantic cod, mussels, spinach, fresh chilli, roma tomatoes, basil pesto & olive oil' - $37
I've read other reviews complaining about service, but we didn't have any real issues (aside from one minor instance where we were told there was no Buffalo Trace there that evening - when we asked the waitress to check this, as Steve had ordered and been served a Buffalo Trace and coke earlier in the evening, she came back with one without any explanation, which made us wonder whether either was genuine, but anyway..).  The wait staff were very attentive and regularly enquired whether we were enjoying our meals, the atmosphere was great for a Wednesday night and I just love the location.  I was pleasantly surprised and would love to try some of the other dishes there sometime.
